About Rita

Rita Carrey, a talented performer and radio personality, comes from a family that has left a lasting mark on the world of entertainment. As the sister of renowned comedian and actor Jim Carrey, Rita grew up in a household where creativity and perseverance were at the heart of everything. The Carrey family’s journey was not always easy—they faced financial struggles and hardships that shaped their resilience and deep sense of compassion for others. Despite these challenges, Rita and her family held onto their love for music, humor, and giving back to the community.

Rita’s passion for music and storytelling has led her to an incredible career in broadcasting and live performance. She has used her voice not just to entertain, but to inspire and support those in need. Through her music and outreach efforts, she continues to bring people together, carrying forward the values of generosity and kindness that her family has always embraced.

A Merry Carrey Christmas is more than just a festive event—it’s a heartfelt mission to support women in need. Inspired by the Carrey family's story of resilience, this fundraiser is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Women’s House, an organization that provides essential support and shelter for women and children escaping abuse. The holidays should be a time of joy and hope for everyone, but for many, it is a season of uncertainty and hardship. Through this initiative, we aim to spread warmth, kindness, and the true spirit of giving, ensuring that those in need have a safe place to turn to.

Women's House Bruce Grey

One of the most admirable qualities I loved about Rita was her willingness to help others, regardless of the situation at that given moment.  She just loved giving back to anyone and everyone she ever met.  With one of the biggest hearts on the planet, a glitter in her eye and that signature Carrey smile she wore so much, Rita never saw the negative side of any situation, always wanting to believe there was still good in everyone.

Keeping with the memory of this amazing woman, A Merry Carrey Christmas is proud to be raising funds for a charity supporting Rita's desire to help those less fortunate in the community- Women's House serving Bruce Grey.

Women’s House is a safe, secure and supportive environment with room to accommodate up to 13 women and children. It is a place where all women and children in need will be helped using a harm reduction approach. It is also available for women who find themselves in a housing crisis. It is a co-operative setting where all women participate in household chores and meal preparations. Women’s House is accessible to women with disabilities, infants and children.

Women’s House offers individual counselling to women in the communities of Kincardine, Lucknow, Port Elgin, Southampton, Hanover, Wiarton, Owen Sound, Walkerton, Markdale and Durham. These services are available free of charge. These counselling services are for women 16 years and over who are experiencing abuse or healing from abuse.

On July 13, A Merry Carrey Christmas encourages our visitors to bring with them a donation for the Women's House.  Volunteers from the shelter will welcome you at the gate and accepting whatever donation you wish to bring with you.  They encourage the following:
